Tainted Saint

I know of what happened on that fateful night

The cuts on your skin kept bleeding ‘till daylight

You could hear your own cries, but no one else did

You suffered alone while everyone else hid

The gaze of an angel can be dangerous

It’s comforting even to demons like us

You looked in his eyes and forgot who you were

You’d forgotten, darling, that you’re a monster

The thing is, he’d forgotten who he was, too

That is, until, he got a good look at you

To angels, we’re like their ugly reflections

Reminding them of their holy deception

I know it must have hurt when he turned away

But, he couldn’t be seen with you every day

Not when you’re such an unholy little thing

That’d taint the image of a saintly being

For we, as demons, are pure symbols of truth

We wear our true forms, no matter how uncouth

The angels are veiled in the prettiest lies

Yet, they think themselves fit to judge and chastise

They’re paragons, they say, of beauty and love

While looking down on us from high up above

Although you are soulless, you still have a heart

Before all of this, it was falling apart

The threads in your flesh are just temporary

They’ll soon snap open from the pain you carry

You thought he would help you, which I understand

He seemed like a savior with a healing hand

But, he left you to sit in the dark, alone

Just made to feel foolish, and chilled to the bone

Embrace the shadows no matter how somber

Let the hate in your heart keep growing stronger

Then the pain, darling, won’t linger much longer
